Christmas 2015

    

Happy holidays! Everyone is feeling the Christmas blues and honestly I don't think I've ever experienced them. I love Christmas and everything but I'm not one to mourn over it being gone... maybe it will hit me when I'm older. Our month of December was filled with watching home alone & home alone 2, drinking lots of hot coffee and hot chocolate, baking Christmas treats and some holiday shopping. 

We visited December nights which we had skipped two years in a row because I feel like more than anything it's just a bunch of vendors and money spending more than actually Christmas celebration but it was nice to get out, drink some hot coconut lattes and walk while observing all the Christmas decorations. Especially after a very hard day. 

This year we started a new tradition with our favorite family (our best friends) of having a friends Christmas dinner. It was amazing to celebrate together since they always leave town to see their families. They cooked some amazing steaks for us and made the best blue cheese butter to go with. I made homemade mac and cheese and some stuffed mushrooms that were to die for. The kids happily played together all night while us adults conversed and took a few jalapeño shots to get warm,

Christmas Eve was very low key. I woke up to clean the house and after, decorated some gingerbread cookies with Maximiliano. We got ready for the day and when Damian was home from work we picked up a good friend of mine and her baby so they could spend Christmas at our place. My mom, sisters and I had decided that we didn't want to cook this year so we bought frozen lasagna, bagged salad, wine and a few appetizers from costco.Yup, I told you it was very low key. My mom still made the traditional Mexican ponche and buñuelos. We had only few family over. Our tradition is to open presents at midnight instead of the 25th, but I think that's mostly because as kids we were super impatient and bugged our parents the whole night haha. Next year I will have Maximiliano open his presents Christmas morning because he will be a bit older and more understanding. Christmas day was just as relax as Christmas Eve, we ate leftovers, relaxed all morning, got ready and left the house to head to the In-laws but not without stopping by starbucks (the only coffee shop open) first for some latte's. I really need to invest on an espresso machine. At my in-laws we ate some delicious green pozole, opened a few more presents and then relaxed before heading back home to watch a good movie and call it a night. Feeling very grateful for all the love in our lives.

Thanksgiving Day

Thankful For:

Maximiliano. He gave my life meaning. Even though there are tough days there is never a day that I don't feel fulfilled and content with what I'm doing. The love that he shows me is a love so beautiful, a love so different, that I wasn't aware that it existed until he came along. Every single day I feel the luckiest human because I get to share my life with him.

Damian. My oh so hard working husband, We have our arguments like every marriage but I am so grateful for this man, He gives his all and never complains.He gives us all without asking for anything in return. Thankful for the love we share.

 Family. My mom and sisters mean so much to me, My sweet mother always willing to help with whatever she can. The love and patience they have for Maximiliano is out of this world and I will forever be grateful for that.

Coffee, Although I stopped drinking coffee cold turkey and have slowly tried incorporating it back into my life. I don't know how I could live without it! Toddler stage can only be survived with lots of coffee!

I'm grateful for my dad. Although I haven't seen him in about 3 years (since he got deported) and our relationship was not good before that, I'm thankful that he is healthy, has a roof over his head and food on his table.

For the roof over our heads, the food on our table, the clothes on our backs. The clean water we have to drink and bathe in, For the couple real friends I have left.

A Very Late Pumpkin Patch Post

I had this post saved as a draft for quite some time, I finally decided to post it before I totally forget about it and these pictures get lost in the abyss of my computer. We visited two new pumpkin patches this fall and both of them were really fun. The first one was the Carlsbad pumpkin patch where we met our friends that came down from Santa Cruz. That day was blazing hot, after the pumpkin patch we went back to their place so the boys could go in the pool for a while before we headed back home. That's fall in California for ya! The second patch we visited had a little corn maze which was pretty awesome since we had never been in one before, we definitely enjoyed this patch especially since the weather was nice and cool!

Now we are ready for a nice and very low key thanksgiving dinner this Thursday, maybe I'll post a halloween related post and another pending post I had before all this holiday madness begins. XOXO

Dearest Ballerina,

I was thrift shopping a few weeks ago. As always I started looking through the books to see if I could score something good for Maximiliano. I didn't find anything so I continued walking straight which led me to this isle full of plastic bags with random clustered toys inside. I looked through all of them searching for treasures but most of it was junk. Beads, loose cards, incomplete puzzles as well as table games, tiny plastic figurines, ugly stuffed animals... and then there was this bag with three worn out pairs of leather ballet shoes and a tambourine. I quickly thought oh this is cute and put them down. I found myself going back to these and looking at them and picturing a tiny little ballerina running around the house making noise with her tambourine and twirling in her little tutu. I was also wondering why anyone would give these up, they would look so beautiful framed. If they had been in better condition I would of picked them up in a heart beat and even though they weren't and I didn't, I kinda wished that I had.

Pumpkin Patch Roundup

We've planned a pumpkin patch trip with our friends for this Saturday, the first of the season and I am beyond excited! After that we are headed to their house to bake, decorate and eat Halloween cookies. I've been all kinds of sappy lately seeing my boy growing so much and so fast so I put some pictures together of our first, second and third pumpkin patch trips. It's finally feeling like fall here in California, cooler temps and even rain. According to my husband it's not going to last long but I hope he's wrong, meanwhile I'm going to enjoy it.

Happy October!

Happy October! We've been getting ready since September haha. Halloween is definitely our favorite holiday over here. We've been reading Halloween books, watching scary movies, walking the Halloween isles at target, searching thrift stores for Halloween treasures and listening to the Misfits nonstop. I will take out the Halloween decor today and pick up a few more things this weekend, nothing too crazy.

We bought Maxi's costume last weekend, he's been wanting to be Captain America ever since he first saw the costume and I really dislike sharing costume pictures before Halloween because I feel like it takes the fun from showing pictures the actual day... but I couldn't help to share this one of my little Captain America. I waited it out, in case he changed his mind but he's stuck with it for a month so I bought it before it disappeared! He's been practically living in the thing and I hope it survives until Halloween haha. He gets so into his role, he once hid me in the room and told me to stay there because he was going to fight the "monsters".

I baked these one bowl famous chocolate cupcakes yesterday to celebrate the first of October and they were AMAZING... the only thing I wasn't really crazy about was the frosting but you can easily use your favorite frosting recipe instead. But you should definitely make these like yesterday. This will definitely be my go to chocolate recipe from now on. 

P.S. If you have a toddler and you happen to be at target pick up the book spooky pookie, Maximiliano absolutely loves it. It's a cute Halloween read, especially for ages 2-4.
